The aim of the programme is to provide a quality, comprehensive and up to date education programme to produce professionally trained Medical Laboratory Technologists so as to help fulfil the nation’s need for qualified healthcare professionals. This in turn will help to improve the health status of the people. The Programme Educational Objectives (PEO) are:
PEO1 – To equip graduates with strong fundamental knowledge and competent technical and analytical laboratory skills to be able to function as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.
PEO2 – To produce graduates who are able to communicate effectively both verbally and in-written form with strong interpersonal skills towards patients, laboratory personnel and other health care professionals.
PEO3 – To produce graduates who are able to convey ideas to a team of health-care professionals of the same or different background with capability to discuss and solve problems and utilise problem solving skills.
PEO4 – To instil and inculcate professional and ethical attitudes and values as a medical lab professional with responsibility towards society.
The programme is designed to meet industry needs where the syllabus a is uniquely structured to incorporate practical elements through students’ activities such as laboratory. Students learn practical skills that are immediately applicable in the workforce. Through the subjects, students are able to experience the real working life while studying, thus our tagline ‘Real World Practice’.
MLT Labs:
As Cosmopoint College has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Ministry of Health to use facilities in Government hospitals, students in the field of health sciences have much hands-on experience in working at the hospitals’ medical diagnosis laboratories. The students are guided by very experienced Clinical Preceptors. In addition, study tours are also conducted to major private medical diagnosis laboratories. Experienced practitioners are also invited to the campus to provide talks on the careers available in the field of medical laboratory technology and the opportunities available to students in the industry.
Students who graduate with a Medical Laboratory Technology Diploma can take up the following broad career paths:
Medical Laboratory Assistant at a hospital medical diagnosis laboratory; Assistant Medical Researcher; Assistant Medical Advisor; and Medical Equipment and Drugs – Sales & Marketing Assistant;
This health science programme provides a pathway to advanced learning at higher learning institutions. Every Cosmopoint College diploma graduate can always opt to pursue a Degree programme at our partner institution, Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College (KLMUC). They offer a variety of degree programmes. Priority will be given to Cosmopoint College graduates who opt for a Degree course.
Students have the opportunity to explore a special programme developed for Cosmopoint College students under the D2D2J (Diploma–to-Degree-to-Job) programme where students can complete their studies from Diploma to Degree and have an opportunity to work for one of the companies that has an MOU with Cosmopoint College Group.
Experienced industry Lab Demonstrators from Private Labs and Government Hospitals are invited to guide students in lab sessions.
