Who is this for?

The programme is designed for those interested to become a member of the health-care professionals as medical laboratory technologists to aid in the diagnosis, research and prevention of diseases.

Programme Description

The Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology is specially designed to equip students with extensive theoretical knowledge and relevant practical skills in clinical laboratory work such as biochemical analysis of blood and body fluids, detection of blood diseases, conduct blood transfusion testing, detection and diagnosis of infectious diseases, preparation of microscopic slides for histopathology and cytology as well as performing diagnostic tests such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

Programmes Aim

To provide relevant, quality and affordable education in medical laboratory science. It is a competency based programme designed to provide theoretical, practical and clinical learning experience. It also prepares and trains students to become responsible, ethical and caring medical laboratory professionals.

Career Prospects

Medical laboratory technologists in pathology laboratories of government or private hospitals or private clinical laboratories. Research assistants in universities and research institutions. Laboratory technicians or laboratory assistants at colleges or universities. Sales representatives in companies selling medical and laboratory equipment, laboratory supplies etc.

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements:

• Science Stream Students:
  A pass in SPM (or any equivalent qualification) with at least credits in any 3 subjects and a Pass in any two science subjects (Biology/ Physics/ Chemistry/ Science/ Applied Science/ Health Science).
• Non Science Students:
  A pass in SPM (or any equivalent qualification) with at least credits in any 2 subjects and 1 credit in a science subject.
